In the small town of Mullins, Nebraska, two things are certain: nothing good happens on Caleb Hartwood’s birthday, and the government building known as The Hive has been a mystery since the day it was built.

Fifteen years later, he’s back to bury his father, but Mullins isn’t the town Caleb remembers. Bryan has grown more politically ambitious. The townsfolk have become more reclusive. And The Hive has noticed Caleb is home.

Rule one of being a cheerleader: don’t fall for the football player who thinks your sport is a joke.

Tommy Jenkins has spent two years as co-captain of Wildbrook University’s nationally ranked cheer squad, perfecting every stunt, every tumble, every count of eight. He’s used to the snickers in the hallways and the jocks who think his uniform is a punchline. He has a trophy case full of comebacks and a sharp tongue for anyone who still doesn’t get it.

Hunter Campbell is Wildbrook’s golden-boy wide receiver and the guy Jesse has been verbally sparring with since freshman year. When a drunken rant of Hunter calling cheerleading “glorified choreography” goes viral, the athletic department hands down a very public punishment. Six weeks of cross-training with the cheer squad, under Jesse’s command.

Jesse plans to make him suffer. Hunter plans to coast through it and get back to the gridiron where he belongs. Neither of them plans for the heat that sparks every time they step onto the mat.

As Nationals approach and the season builds toward its loudest moment, Jesse will have to decide whether he’s willing to be Hunter’s frenemy for life, or be tossed into the air and caught in the arms of a lover.

Christopher J. Brice is the author of adult and young adult queer romances.

Ever since he was a young boy, Christopher J. Brice has had a very active imagination. His love for creating interesting characters couldn’t be stopped, and he started putting the proverbial pen to paper shortly after graduating from college.

When his writing journey began, he had a choice to make—screenplays or novels. He honed his craft creating stories for the silver screen, from romance to drama, and horror to soap operas. As an avid reader, he realized that he had so much more to tell that a two-hour movie could never convey. Thus, Christopher decided to write his very first novel. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.

When Christopher is not writing or reading, he enjoys spending time with friends, family, and the most adorable cat known to mankind.
